The Void

I remember when you were young
simple, unafraid, and forgiving
I wonder now what went so wrong
in all the things that made you
All the secrets you could never tell
All the pain you meant to hide
All the darkness that lured and lulled you
With promises of golden tomorrows
not being just another day
I wonder who it was who held your hand
when there was no one there to guide you

Oh dear…..I once knew a young man named Austin, he was 21 years old when he overdosed and died, alone. Austin was one of those people who was always “up” with everyone, he hid so much and in the end, all that hiding was too much. For poetry to reach out and bring all that back so vividly, to bring tears to a readers eyes I think is more profound than anything I could put into words here. You did that exceptionally well. Thank you.

    • Thank you so much. It is difficult knowing people who hurt themselves and everyone who loves them. I wish us all happier days and the strength to ask for help when we need it.
